Transformed Treasure Sneak Peak

The dishes I found, just love the colors
Each year the Salvation Army hosts a fund raiser called Transformed Treasures  It is a silent and live auction to help raise funds for the different Salvation Army Programs around Alaska.  Local artists are chosen to participate to find items from local Salvation Army Thrift Stores that are transformed into pieces of art.  We are given $50.00 in vouchers to use at the Thrift stores and then set loose to find items.  We are also given an opportunity to raid the warehouse.  I have to admit at first I was not impressed with the warehouse raid.  Basically it was tubs of items that had been donated from the day before.  You had to dig through the boxes and bags in the bins (and a lot of trash, lets just say I wore gloves).  I walked by a box of dishes and thought hmmm those look interesting and kept walking.  I really had no idea what I was looking for, I was just looking to see if something would speak to me.  I found a couple of picture frames I really liked, a little shelf, and then those darn dishes just kept calling my name so I picked them up and headed to check out.  A representative from the Salvation Army asked if I wanted the dishes wrapped for safe travel and I told him not to bother, I was just going to break them anyway.  He was shocked and said that if it had been up to him, I wouldn't have gotten the dishes :)

This weekend is my big moment of truth.  I am going to see if I can actually pull off a mosaic tiled table.....Wish me luck, I've never done this before.  Nothing like jumping off a cliff head first.  Did I mention the projects are due April 6th...
